Statement from the
Arab Ba'ath Socialist
Party (of Iraq)
- MAY 30, 2004 -

Unity, Liberty, Socialism

"THE IRAQI RESISTANCE WOULD TARGET THE PRESIDENCY,
PROVISIONAL GOVERNMENT, AND FOREIGN FORCES,
INCLUDING UNDER UNITED NATIONS CONTROL,
THAT WILL REMAIN IN IRAQ AFTER THE SUPPOSED
"TRANSFER OF AUTHORITY" AT THE END OF JUNE"

We’ll give you a summary of the last Ba’ath Statement about the situation in Iraq after June’ 30 :

The Arab Ba’ath Socialist Party (of Iraq) has issued a statement in which it pledged that the Iraqi Resistance would target the presidency, provisional government, and foreign forces that will remain in Iraq after the supposed “transfer of authority” at the end of June : “US puppet regime, any foreign forces brought in to serve after the so-called 'transfer of power' on 30 June will be legitimate targets of the Resistance”.

The Ba’ath statement said : “the transfer of authority to the governing council appointed by the occupation does not constitute a real gain for the Ba’ath, nor for the armed Iraqi Resistance, the legal side opposed to the current reality and planned future of the occupation. This date was set by the US Administration in its hopeless effort to manage its deepening and accelerating crisis in Iraq”.

“The institutions and individual members of the presidential structure and the provisional government will be legitimate targets for the armed Resistance, regardless of the titles or identities of those persons. Members of the used up puppet 'governing council', including those who will be leaving office, will remain legitimate targets of the Resistance, which will take vengeance on them for their treasonous activity against Iraq and their collaboration with the occupier”.

The Ba’ath statement confirmed that “foreign entities, whatever their titles or natures, that set themselves up in Iraq under the auspices of the implementation of the transfer of power will remain illegal and equivalent to the occupation and its puppet government. Foreign military forces – regardless of what they are called, regardless of any resolutions taken by any international or regional organizations, and regardless of any orders issued by the puppet government under which they might operate – will be treated as occupation forces, regardless of where they might be in Iraq and regardless of whatever function or purpose they might be commissioned to fulfil”.

The Ba’ath statement said that “United Nations resolutions will be simply the legal perfection of the effort to grant legitimacy to the occupation which is rejected by the Iraqi People and Resistance. These resolutions will not be binding or legal as far as the Resistance and the people of Iraq are concerned. Anything based upon such resolutions and any forces that come in under their auspices will still be treated as occupation forces”.

The Ba’ath statement concluded saying : “the political and security agreements and accords and any other arrangements that the puppet government might make will be illegal, as will anything based on such arrangements or imposed on the Iraqi people under them on Iraqi territory, and they will be treated like the occupiers and be regarded as legitimate targets”.
