(TO THE
NEWSPAPER
"AL-QUDS
AL-ARABI"
(LONDON,
MAY 28, 2003)
"LONG LIVE THE COURAGEOUS SONS OF IRAQ WHO ARE RESISTING THE OCCUPIER.
LONG LIVE THE AL-FARUQ BRIGADES AND AL-HUSSEIN UNITS.
LONG LIVE THE ARMY MEN WHO ARE FIGHTING AN HONOURABLE GUERRILLA WAR.
LONG LIVE THE ARAB SOCIALIST BAATH PARTY MEMBERS.
LONG LIVE THE MUJAHIDAT DAUGHTERS OF IRAQ"
OUR COMMENTARIES :
'SADDAM LETTER' URGES RESISTANCE
A
new letter attributed to Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein calls on
his people to boycott any US-appointed regime and may give
credence to claims of organised resistance inside Iraq.
The
message published in the London-based al-Quds newspaper also
calls on Iraqis to expel from Iraq anyone who supported the
US-led invasion.
It is the third
letter attributed to Saddam Hussein published by the
Arabic-language al-Quds which has taken a pro-Saddam editorial
line.
It
is published in the wake of a series of attacks on US
soldiers in Iraq.
On
late Tuesday, gunmen fired rocket-propelled grenades and shot
at a US army unit in Falluja, north-west of Baghdad, killing
two soldiers and wounding nine others.
BBC
Arab affairs analyst Magdi Abdelhadi says the timing of the
letter's publication might give credence to those who claim
there is organised resistance to the US in Iraq.
Al-Quds
has published three letters signed 'Saddam Hussein' (courtesy
al-Quds)
Al-Quds
editor Abdel Bari Atwan told BBC News Online he was convinced
the letter - which arrived by fax from an unknown location -
was written by Saddam Hussein.
"The
signature is genuine. We have already published two previous
letters from Saddam Hussein, all three bear the same
handwriting.
"I
think this shows Saddam is still in hiding, directing
resistance. He predicted in speeches before the war, that Iraq
would be occupied and there would be a guerrilla war."
The
letter also praises those fighting the US occupation.
It
also calls on Syria to resist pressure from the United States.

The full
text of a handwritten letter said to be from the Iraqi leader
Saddam Hussein, published by al-Quds - a London-based Arabic
newspaper - on 28 May, as translated by BBC Monitoring :
From Saddam Hussein to the mujahideen everywhere
;
to the courageous sons of Arabism ;
to members of the Arab Socialist Baath Party ;
peace unto you and God's mercy and blessings.
While
we fight and hunt the cowardly American and British enemy, we
call on you to activate your political role by boycotting
everyone that the criminal invading forces install to manage
any of the Iraqi governmental and popular departments.
We
also call on you, o brothers in jihad, to expel every traitor
who supported the aggression or came with it, who falsely call
themselves Iraqis. Boycott them and leave it to us to carry
arms for destroying the criminal United States and those with
it.
Know,
o brothers in jihad, that every American and Briton will
continue to live on the land of the Arabs frightened, worried
and terrified if they do not withdraw from Iraq and change
their positions towards the criminal Zionist occupation of
Arab Palestine.
What
we are asking from you is not impossible or difficult, despite
the collusion of the regimes that were paid the price for
selling Iraq with more humiliation and disgrace, such as the
traitor [Egyptian President Hosni] Mubarak's regime, the
cowardly and perfidious Jordanian regime, the traitors from
the al-Saud [Saudi royal family] and the cowardly al-Sabah [family]
in occupied Kuwait.
We
tell our brothers in the Syria of Arabism do not become weak
as this will only increase their transgression against you;
demonstrate a defiant true Arab and Islamic spirit and do not
be like the other regimes that are preventing assistance to
their resistance brothers after having handed over a number of
them.
O
mujahideen of the Muslims and Arabs and o Baathists everywhere:
this is your day when you must show your role which you cannot
accept being confined to enthusiastic words that lack the
right action.
Your
Iraq urges you to increase the fears, worries and terror of
America's cowards while we continue to strike them until death.
Long
live every honourable mujahid. Long live the courageous sons
of Iraq who are resisting the occupier. Long live the al-Faruq
Brigades and al-Hussein units. Long live the army men who are
fighting an honourable guerrilla war. Long live the Arab
Socialist Baath Party members. Long live the mujahidat
daughters of Iraq.
God
is Great. Long live Iraq. Long live Palestine free and Arab
from the sea to the river. Let the accursed be cursed.
(signed)
Saddam Hussein,
28 May 2003.
